Module 1: Experience Flow

In this module you experience immersive learning  through a simulation what is Push vs Pull, how do we manage flow. You will also learn about the core metrics that guides us towards continuous improvement. You will learn about Classes of service and how it’s used to assist teams to become more predictable and also how to manage blockers and defects on the Kanban board.

Module 2: The Kanban Method

After attending this section you will understand the importance of the three Change Management principles the three service delivery principles and the six general practices of Kanban. You will be able to explain what a service is and also what Kanban’s service orientation approach is all about. You will be able to describe the effect of Kanban in action.

Module 3: STATIK & Case Study

In this module we make use of a Case Study to guide you through the Systems Thinking Approach to Introducing Kanban(STATIK).  You will be able to explain the purpose and benefits of STATIK and also use the six stages to design a Kanban System. You will learn to recognize patterns and how to use them when designing the initial Kanban System.

Module 4: Design a Kanban System

We will expand on Module 3 and use a narrative from one or two participants to design a Kanban system that they can go and use immediately. Multiple patterns on board and ticket  designs will be discussed that could be used in the initial design. There are numerous real life examples of Kanban boards and systems from other organizations

After attending the class, students will be able to:

  • Explain the basics, motivation and benefits of the Kanban Method.
  • Apply the Kanban practices and principles with the “Service Orientation” agenda.
  • Explain the core Kanban concept of “Pull” with its effects and how Pull-Systems can be modeled.
  • Apply the STATIK Method to design service-oriented Kanban systems.
  • Apply insights from STATIK and suitable patterns to design a Kanban board that closely models the workflow, item types, classes of service and other elements at hand.

In this 2 day overview of Kanban systems design you will gain an understanding of the application of the Kanban method as well as how to introduce it to your organisation.

It will assist you become more aware of the “invisible” work that is going, how to visualise it, how it is being done and the current risks. It includes a case study of the application of Kanban and how it can be adopted in your organisation.

The 2 days are filled with many group exercises, collaboration and highly interactive gameplay. Day one is an introduction to several key elements of the
