KMP1: Certified Kanban Training
All our Kanban classes are Pragmatic, Actionable and Evidence based guidance that can be used immediately and are certified by the Kanban University. You don’t have to wait for the perfect environment or project to come along, you can start with what you do now. In this virtual class we cover foundational topics over four modules that will kickstart your Kanban System and help maintain it. With loads of examples of Kanban boards from other organizations you will learn how to use patterns to design your own system and help coach teams in your own organization to a better flow system.

Module 1: Experience Flow
In this module you experience immersive learning through a simulation what is Push vs Pull, how do we manage flow. You will also learn about the core metrics that guides us towards continuous improvement. You will learn about Classes of service and how it’s used to assist teams to become more predictable and also how to manage blockers and defects on the Kanban board.
Module 2: The Kanban Method
After attending this section you will understand the importance of the three Change Management principles the three service delivery principles and the six general practices of Kanban. You will be able to explain what a service is and also what Kanban’s service orientation approach is all about. You will be able to describe the effect of Kanban in action.
Module 3: STATIK & Case Study
In this module we make use of a Case Study to guide you through the Systems Thinking Approach to Introducing Kanban(STATIK). You will be able to explain the purpose and benefits of STATIK and also use the six stages to design a Kanban System. You will learn to recognize patterns and how to use them when designing the initial Kanban System.
Module 4: Design a Kanban System
We will expand on Module 3 and use a narrative from one or two participants to design a Kanban system that they can go and use immediately. Multiple patterns on board and ticket designs will be discussed that could be used in the initial design. There are numerous real life examples of Kanban boards and systems from other organizations

What others had to say about our training
After attending the class, students will be able to:
- Explain the basics, motivation and benefits of the Kanban Method.
- Apply the Kanban practices and principles with the “Service Orientation” agenda.
- Explain the core Kanban concept of “Pull” with its effects and how Pull-Systems can be modeled.
- Apply the STATIK Method to design service-oriented Kanban systems.
- Apply insights from STATIK and suitable patterns to design a Kanban board that closely models the workflow, item types, classes of service and other elements at hand.
In this 2 day overview of Kanban systems design you will gain an understanding of the application of the Kanban method as well as how to introduce it to your organisation.
It will assist you become more aware of the “invisible” work that is going, how to visualise it, how it is being done and the current risks. It includes a case study of the application of Kanban and how it can be adopted in your organisation.
The 2 days are filled with many group exercises, collaboration and highly interactive gameplay. Day one is an introduction to several key elements of the
Kanban Method such as:
- Principles of Kanban
- General practices
Kanban system mechanics and indicators:
- Pull
- Delivery
- Replenishment
- Commitment Point(s)
- Lead Time
- Throughput
- Metrics: Cumulative-Flow Diagrams
Every kanban system is different! On day 2 you will be presented with Systems Thinking Approach to Introducing Kanban (STATIK) as well as a practical exercise that will allow you to design your Kanban system that can be used immediately.
The following is also included on day 2:
- Introduction to the STATIK method
- Case study – Kanban Methods design, where it all started
- Understanding the context to understand the need for change
- Capability vs Demand Analysis
- Model or Visualizing the current workflow as it exists
- Kanban Systems design
- Work Item Types
- Classes of Service
- Frequencies, Systems Replenishment and recurring events
- Establishing a Kanban system visualization you can use immediately
- Work Item Type – Ticket design
